Tourism Minister Sheila McHale said the 2007 calendar contained a broad mix of international, mass participation, and uniquely Western Australian events.

Spring-cleaners urged to recycle computers at free event

A free computer recycling event at Murdoch University on Saturday, November 25 will give people the perfect opportunity to clear out their trash and help the environment in the process, Environment Minister Mark McGowan said today.

Mr McGowan said Dell Australia’s free community recycling event would take place from 9am - 3pm at Murdoch University’s number one car-park and would include up to three computers, laptops, monitors, keyboards, scanners and printers of any brand.

Perth runs out on top of major new event

Perth has clinched another major new tourism event - Interhash 2008 - which is expected to attract thousands of interstate and international visitors to Western Australia.

Tourism Minister Sheila McHale said Interhash 2008, a participation event involving the famous Hash House Harriers running club, would see up to 6,000 people running during the day and socialising at night.

Perth plugs in for international music spectacular

Perth is set to host an international music industry event similar to one in the United Kingdom that launched bands Oasis and Coldplay.

Tourism Minister Sheila McHale, who is also Minister for Culture and the Arts, today announced Perth had beaten other countries to host ‘In The City AAA’, a new four-day music industry event set to attract the world’s most influential music industry leaders.

“’In The City AAA’ will be the biggest music industry festival in the southern hemisphere and will attract great bands to perform and record in Perth,” Ms McHale said.

“This will shine an international musical spotlight on our city, with music industry leaders in town scouting for and signing up the next ‘biggest things’ in music.

“Organisers chose Perth to host ‘In The City AAA’ because of our enormous musical talent - which includes John Butler Trio, Eskimo Joe, The Waifs, End of Fashion, The Sleepy Jackson and Little Birdy.”

Major upgrade to Perth's main wastewater treatment plants

The State Government will provide $352million over the next five years to upgrade three main metropolitan wastewater treatment plants.

Water Resources Minister John Kobelke today announced the upgrade to the Beenyup, Woodman Point and Subiaco wastewater treatment plants would be one of the most significant ever undertaken.
